@pitochk: For centuries, seeing an event as it happened somewhere far away belonged to the imagination. Words could travel by wire, and voices could travel by radio. But how could you send an image? Early televisions used spinning discs to build a tiny, blurry picture line by line. Electronic cameras and screens came next, followed by colour broadcasts, satellites and flat screens. Now we can watch live video on something that fits in a pocket. When television first appeared, newspapers wondered whether a small screen could ever rival the theatre or the opera. Both are still here. But television made something else possible: millions of people could watch the same moment from their own homes. All of it began with a question that once sounded like science fiction: could an image travel across the world? #TV #Television #Technology #edit #Science
