@30trillioncells: Are we getting dumber? What the research says about Gen Z, IQ scores and the reverse Flynn effect. For almost a century, IQ scores rose about 3 points every decade. Then, in several countries, it flipped. In Norway, men born after 1975 score lower than those born before them, and the drop shows up even between brothers in the same family, so it isn't genes. It's our environment. PISA 2022 tested about 690,000 students across 81 countries and recorded what the OECD called an unprecedented drop in performance. My bet on why: inside the video Follow, and watch my other videos with your brain open. Sources: 1. Bratsberg & Rogeberg (2018), PNAS: Flynn effect and its reversal are both environmentally caused 2. I get how IQ score dropped in this generation, but PISA has already told us that IQ isn't doing any justis to measure the full broad intilegence. where your gen z is getting dummer argument falls apart. also nice hook

Idk :
I don’t think saying “Gen Z is getting dumber” just because some IQ scores have declined is fair. IQ doesn’t measure overall intelligence; it measures certain areas like reasoning, memory and processing speed. It’s useful, but it’s not a perfect measurement and can be influenced by education, environment and socioeconomic conditions. There’s also the question of the population being measured. A century ago, a much larger part of the population had limited education, lived in poverty, or simply never had access to IQ testing. So we’re not necessarily comparing the same kind of population or the same circumstances. And Gen Z has grown up with access to an insane amount of information through the internet, books, research and education that previous generations simply didn’t have access to in the same way. That doesn’t automatically make Gen Z smarter, but it makes declaring an entire generation “dumber” from an IQ score a pretty big leap. Even the Flynn effect shows how much test scores can change between generations, and newer research has found that some of the recent changes can come from specific subtests rather than a change in underlying general intelligence.
