Maybe it is just me, but if my family member or close friend did something like that for free for me, I'd be more than happy for them to be able to advertise their business. It sounds like it was very small, and barley noticeable. I always, always want to help support my family's and friends' businesses.

So, the only reason I’d say YTA is if this specifically WASN’T a gift. Like, if the cousin offered the free design IN EXCHANGE for the free advertising, I think that’s totally normal and more than fair. But because OP called it “a gift” from the cousin, I think it’s your wedding gift, do what you want with it.

"but it's a giiiift" if i painted something for someone as a gift and they went in and scraped off the tiny bit in the corner where I added my signature, I'd be pissed off. While it should've been plainly said there will be a QR code, I think having one tiny little code as a sort of 'signature' would be worth getting something for free that would otherwise cost hundreds.

pretty much all artistic vendors will add their watermark/ logo etc. to the things they produce for events. A small qr code, assuming it's on the back of the program, shouldn't be a big deal.

I can’t believe they were able to find a printer that was willing to remove the QR code. Those places, if legitimate, won’t print without a artist release. Yeah sure gift but the law may say that the cousin owned the copyright.

if the code was small i don't see the big deal. if you plan on keeping the programs as the couple i can see not wanting it there but get a few without. i have never kept the programs from weddings.

Maybe it's just me, but I love supporting my friends/family and their business. Especially if they're doing me a favor, gift or not. It's such a small thing, and I want my loved one to have credit for their work.

As someone who does marketing and design, it's honestly not the hardest thing to do. If you want a simple program using canva would be such an easy thing to do. Depending on how many people you'd only need to pay for the paper and loose about at max 6 hours of your time (which can get pricey I will admit) I personally think that everyone kind of sucks here, cousin didn't want to give a gift without credit and op didn't communicate with cousin about how that can really be seen as not an actual gift.
