@springsgazette: Three years after debuting her new space company, former Disney Channel star Bridgit Mendler is joining the Space Foundation’s board of directors. She’s joining alongside retired Gen. David D. “DT” Thompson at the Colorado Springs nonprofit. Mendler may be well known for her acting work, having starred in shows like “Good Luck Charlie” and “Wizards of Waverly Place.” Now, however, the 33-year-old co-founder of Northwood Space is working to streamline ground infrastructure for space launches. The company envisions being able to scale infrastructure on demand “without the usual procurement cycles, vendor coordination, or integration challenges.” Mendler is filling the Foundation’s New Generation Space Leader board position. Created in 2008, the position is meant to bring new perspectives from “emerging leaders who are helping shape the future of the space economy,” Space Foundation CEO Heather Pringle said in a Thursday email. “Bridgit combines technical credibility, entrepreneurial achievement and an appreciation for policy,” Pringle said. “Her background as an emerging space innovator complements the Board’s expertise in national security, civil space, international leadership and industry.” Mendler has a master’s degree from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and earned her J.D. from Harvard. She was a featured speaker at last year’s Space Symposium, an annual multiday trade show hosted at The Broadmoor that draws tens of thousands of space and military professionals. She founded Northwood Space in 2023 alongside her husband, Griffin Cleverly, and Shaurya Luthra, The Gazette reported.
