My postpartum exercise experience: By no means is this a prescriptive recommendation for everyone; postpartum exercise should be very individualized! This is how I progressed from delivery to current (18 weeks postpartum) How I progressed my workouts from delivery to 18 weeks postpartum Weeks 1-3: All about rest. I put no pressure on myself to do much of anything. I did SOME mobility, I was mostly in survival and enjoy the new baby mode. Week 4-5: I added longer daily walks and some light core engagement work that I got from my pelvic floor PT. Week 6: I got cleared to exercise and taught the first week of the postpartum program. It was light loads, short workouts, and progressive core work. The focus was on muscular endurance and stability. Week 7: I taught the 2nd week of the postpartum program. I added a bit more load to upper body, progressed core, and did mostly light weight and bodyweight for lower body. Weeks 8-12: My upper body felt strong, and my core strength was progressing. Lower body took a bit longer to progress - I felt pelvic heaviness when I used heavier weights. So I took lower body slower and continued to use bodyweight or lighter loads. I also felt heaviness with impact, so I added no-impact cardio. I was working with a pelvic floor PT through all of this. Week 13-16: I started to be able to tolerate small amounts of jumping - tiny jump squats. I also added a little more load to lower body. Week 17-current: I can tolerate all impact, added tennis, and lower body work feels almost back to normal. I feel close to my pre-pregnancy self as far as strength, and plan to add HIIT in a few weeks. I'll share my experience about this on stories! I think my experience with chronic pain in the past has helped me slow down and progress appropriately postpartum because I know how it takes time and patience for the body to heal. I'm determined to come back stronger than ever, but I'm in no rush!! I taught new classes for each week of my pregnancy AND a progressive postpartum program. All are included in the @Evlo Fitness membership! #fitnessroutine #prenatalfitness #postpartumrecovery #postpartumfitnessjourney #strengthtrainingforwomen
