as a psychologist this is not really true. first impressions matter but people do constantly rectify what they believe and feel about other people, and people also do change their opinions. it is true however that changing the opinion about someone after a long time is unlikely to be substantial unless there is some sort of rupture in the relationship. but I wouldn't go as far as to say that the first impression is the filter through which everything else is seen which simply isn't true and the data doesn't support that.
