@littlemindsacademyy: 8 habits that make body safety a normal part of everyday life — save this for later. #bodysafety #childsafety #parentingtips #consenteducation #littlemindsacademy
I have done really well with all of these except one -which is an important one- but I was a new mom who did not know about the “lying stage that is important for development” and I handled it very very wrong. Lying is such a trigger for me, it’s like one thing that makes me lose my mind… sooo even though I have instilled those other things, my oldest even says “I don’t need to tell you, you don’t believe me anyway” because at one point is was lying about every single thing and I had to investigate to know what is true… if they are like 6 already do you have any recommendations on how to rebuild that and let them know that I trust them. They will still tell me things they do wrong, even when worried about getting in trouble because I usually do pretty well at not overreacting to things, so I know there’s still some trust there but I don’t want my own kid thinking I don’t trust them. Looking for pointers on how to mend that. 🥰

I have told my little girl this is ur vagina. No body touches ur vagina unless you say it’s ok. She’s 4, and I still ask her if it’s okay for me to help take a bath. She’s the love of my life I’ll never hurt her I need her to know boundaries, but I will be damned if she doesn’t know how to say no. I asked her for a kiss yesterday and she said I don’t feel like a kiss today. That’s my girl. I told her she did a good job of being a free person. I really just wanted a hug from her but I didn’t ask bc she just told me no to a kiss. She fell into my arms and said “thank you daddy” I asked her why. She said bc you let me say no

I ask my grandkids if I can have a hug or a kiss, if they say no I don't get butthurt. I'm not entitled access to theither bodies just because I'm grandma.

Asking if u can brush their hair etc is ridiculous because they say no. So they say no and u do it anyway

Even we ask our boy if we can get a kiss or hug etc, if he says no, we say okay and we all go about doing what we was doing before. The older generation of my family rial me when they try to pressure him for either one, I have to step in when he says no and they try to challenge him. No is no, to everybody. It’s not that he doesn’t love you, he just doesn’t want to - if we as his parents can respect it, everyone else can too.

had a former friend who did the "I believe you" thing and her kid loved it so much, she would lie straight to her moms face and get away with it and when I asked mom why she did it even when she was faced with a trusted adult telling her that her child DID do something she just said that her kid deserved to know she was always in her corner. this one to me shows kids they don't have to be held accountable, theres other ways to show your kid you're in their corner

Adults only ask other adults for help- leave the item, leave the person and keep walking to an another adult where you feel safe.

Every now and again, when we are in the car having a laugh, I get them to try and scream as loud and as long as they can. The only time I've needed to scream, I felt awkward, unsure and hesitant. I didn't scream.
I want them both to be comfortable with making lots of noise at the drop of a hat.

My twins are two, they absolutely HATE having their hair washed. If I asked if I can wash it… we all know what would happen so I tell them it’s time to wash their hair and I’m « forced » to wash it because they hate hate hate having water in their head [Crying]

I love these and I will practice what to do if a stranger comes to them and a stranger tries to grab them. They have to know not everyone is nice and safe.
