DANGME FESTIVALS SEASON 2026: DODOWA NGMAYEM FESTIVAL BONFIRE NIGHT In the video: An elder narrates the history of the Katamanso War, also known as the Dodowa War, of 1826, sharing the story of a significant chapter in the history of the Sɛ (Shai) people. Tonight in Dodowa, within the Dangme Traditional Area of Sɛ (Shai), the people came together for Bonfire Night, a traditional gathering centred on storytelling, cultural education and the sharing of history. Around the bonfire, old tales and stories of the Sɛ (Shai) State are shared, keeping the memories and traditions of the ancestors alive while educating the younger generation and visitors about the rich culture and history of the land. It is a beautiful moment where elders share knowledge, stories are passed down, and the younger generation learns about the heritage of their people. Bonfire Night is a way of keeping Sɛ (Shai) history, traditions and cultural identity alive and passing them from one generation to the next. NOTE: In the narration, the elder unintentionally omitted the Dangme Traditional Areas of Klo (Krobo), Osudoku, Gbugbla (Prampram) and Kpone, which formed part of the Dangme contingent that fought together in the Katamanso War, also known as the Dodowa War. The elder acknowledged that these communities were unintentionally left out while he was narrating from memory rather than reading from a book or written source. This note is provided for accuracy and context, so that the historical contribution of all the communities involved is properly recognised and preserved. #DangmeFestivalsSeason2026 #DodowaNgmayemFestival #BonfireNight #Dodowa #Sɛ
