Very tired old trope & I think romanticizing a man's reckless freedom to explore his existentialism until he settles on something meaningful aka usually a woman/wife/family perpetuates the idea that women are not allowed the same freedom. The status quo punishes these women who dare to roam as "used/washed up" as if their life is no longer any valid or useful to the patriarchy.
Would love to see a film explore this theme from a woman's POV as protagonist where she isn't punished but the ending is just as romanticized at a lost to the patriarchy, awarding her full sovereignty/autonomy.
Some of us are already living it now. 😉

A good life, a happy life, is producing something meaningful or useful, raising children if you're lucky, and enjoying nature, respect God and learning new knowledge. If you can do all that and not end up in prison.
