in the states, we often sedate the horses (not fully) and then they get their head placed on a bit of a pedestal. less stressful for everyone involved, probably a bit more expensive lol

On the edge of my sanity :
Was a temporary student for a horse vet and dentist once, and during one shift we had to do a procedure on this old and very noncompliant fjord, so it had to be sedated. I got the job of holding up its head while the vet rummaged through his truck for the stand to hold up the head instead… I never imagined a fjords unsupported head would be that goddamn heavy.
