“Phone, not a camera?” An iPhone 17 Pro costs around GH₵20,000, yet we still dismiss it as “just a phone” and comfort ourselves with the idea that expensive tools don’t matter. That is exactly the kind of myopic thinking we had when we started this craft nearly 20 years ago. Back then, we convinced ourselves that talent was all that mattered because we simply didn’t have access to better equipment. But the moment we got our hands on the Canon R series and experienced what modern technology could actually do. Talent is the foundation, but tools expand what talent can produce. Better cameras, lenses, lighting and technology don't replace skill—they give room for expansion So yes, it is a phone but it is also a highly advanced imaging device. Dismissing it simply because it is called a “phone” is the same kind of mindset that once made us underestimate what better technology could do for our craft.
