I don’t wanna have this conversation on the Internet anymore, but just know that there’s a lot of xenophobia on both sides but there’s a lot of issues that other black immigrants specifically African immigrants do not understand or like to acknowledge about these conversations

I’m in med school and I’ll say the more you get further in education less you see black people. The only black people i usually see are Africans and I’m always looking for any type of black in class just to feel like I’m not the only one. The pb with the American culture in general people just say Loan this and that . People want to be musicians, football players compared to the African and Asian you see in further education you have school is not an option and Doctors, engineers, lawyers those type . I wish this was more in BA culture because. Yet the woman do go back to school even after 30 years old or with kids and all . There’s room for everyone!

I think it all come down to how America commercialize America to the world of America. America’s like heaven what they see on TV is bunch of skyscrapers crazy shit Money you know that’s what you see on social media on TV everywhere and then you come here you see people living in poverty begging on the street and then you were like what is going on. unfortunately behind closed doors I have met many African men who talked about how they were discouraged from socializing with African Americans as well as marrying black women. a lot of the issue the AA community has is the idea that Africans may look down upon us while benefiting from the civil rights our ancestors fought for. the convo online can be very disingenuous.

but I think that what a lot of people especially African people when they give the crab in a bucket mentality speech they never mentioned the the way the crab that made it out of the bucket continues to treat the crabs that are still in the bucket you know they act as if well I've made it out of the bucket so I'm better than all these other crabs you know and then they get together with other craps who made it out of the bucket and they say yeah we're better than these crabs that are still in the bucket and that's what happens with a lot of African immigrants who have come to America they have this mentality that they're better than black Americans and in reality there isn't a single thing a an immigrant has done that a black American didn't do before them and isn't continuing to do to this day. they have to remember that it was the Black American struggle and sacrifice that opened these doors for them there was a point where black people weren't even allowed to immigrate to America

I saw an MS3 post something to this rhetoric. It was slightly coded in why are they taking BA spots. Oh she has a lot to learn. I’m happy to see anyone black. Now that DEI and AA are gone, we better hold on to each other, no matter what kind of black.

I feel both sides have been Harmful to each other, and that’s what we are not talking about enough. As a Caribbean-American woman i can admit to hearing anti-black American rhetoric growing up, and through education became very pro-black in all ways. BUT on the flip side I remember the immense bullying us immigrant children experienced in school from Black American, Hispanic, white, etc students. Some immigrant children have even taken their lives due to the significant bullying and many students used to deny being Haitian. I was firmly me and never denied it cuz my family installed high ethnic self esteem. I knew who I was.

Same reason Black American people face challenges succeeding over here is similar reason why our homes are burning to the ground in our country 😢. Many centuries of slavery and anti black policy. Haiti was iced out from world trade until they paid France BILLIONS of dollars for our freedom, which was just recently paid off. Not to mention the increase in U.S and other countries meandering in our political affairs, ensuring we are unable to have a non corrupt leader who does not support their control of our resources. It's very difficult to get people to understand that what they think they see is not reality. You don't have the experience or wisdom to speak on a community you're not apart of. I wish more people would consider that they may be oblivious to the context of a conversation they just walked into the middle of.

Us black Americans don’t care what yall do we are the reason you as a black person can come to this country and have rights and be considered 5/5ths of a human being. I’m a Black American man in my 4th year of medical school. Honestly one of the biggest eye openers for me was that I’ve been attacked by Black Immigrants more than anyone else in my journey. I typically saw everyone Black as a group of people that helped each other out but some of the Black Immigrants made it clear that I wasn’t part of the club and that “I should be proud of myself bc my entire culture is fucking up”. Typically I never really saw a divide because I have many Black American as well as Black Immigrant friends but that was not what I experienced within my med school journey. We should be building each other up and embracing our different cultures without attacking each other. Bc there’s no reason for me to do what I do then get told that I’m lazy and not doing enough by anyone. It’s hard enough already

Black Americans aren’t having discussions about black immigrant success because black immigrants haven’t accomplished anything Black Americans haven’t accomplished 100 fold. You’re right that the experiences of black Americans and Afro immigrants are different. Many anti-black immigrants who consider FBAs “lazy” fail to consider the hundreds of years of historical setbacks and generational trauma that FBAs face(d) due to slavery and de jure /de facto racism. And these effects are still lasting as of today. Also, if it wasn’t for FBAs, no one of color would be successful in this country. Immigrants regardless of their background are presenting to this country with a clean slate without the traumas and barriers FBAs experienced. Also, the difference in black boys’ and girls’ perception of success goes much deeper than being more attracted to sports and entertainment. It goes back to limited exposure to and representation in STEM, the defunding of predominantly black public schools, and the war on drugs and mass incarceration to name a few.
