@pharmacistdom: 185 questions just to get one prescription covered sounds insane. Here’s what a prior authorization actually is and what you can do when insurance says no. #pharmacy #pharmacist #medication #priorauthorization #doctor

What medication was it? It makes a difference if it’s a $300 med or a $10,000 med

Should be 2 questions. 1. Did they fail on the preferred med? 2. Is it medically necessary. Nothing else is pertinent.

This is how I got my job as a patient care coordinator. I spend time filling these out, calling the insurance companies, bringing everything together and presenting a concise summary to my supervising physician.. a neurologist.

I believe, based on a decade of doing prior auth for multiple health plans (not PBMs) that she likely did not actually have to answer all 185! questions. likely it was a match the DX to the question set (for RA see questions 10-20, for As questions 21-30, etc). If she did actually have to do all 185 questions then yes, that is ridiculous and unrealistic. In a decade of Pan work I've never actually seen a Pan policy like though. I've had to fax PA forms that had the question set for each FDA approved indication which made it look like there were dozens of questions to be answered but in reality you only need to complete the relevant questions. I would be curious if she did any follow on if she ended up having to do all 185 or realized later she didn't.

My fiancé had to do a filling out of those questions. He’s not a doctor. He was a patient. He’s got thyroid cancer. He’s had two surgeries. He has cancer in his lungs now, but he wanted Ativan to help with his distress cause he wasn’t sleeping. Our healthcare system is shit.

It’s because they don’t want the patient to get it, but they don’t wanna deny the hassle effect. Thank you for bringing this out to the public.

As a medical assistant, since when do doctors fill out paperwork for PA? All they have ever done for me is sign the damn thing.
