here’s my main issue: Toby CAN be funny, the light world chapter 5 was probably the funniest part of that chapter for me, the dialogue and character interactions are simply amazing, but it unfortunately reveals the ugly side of Toby’s comedy: his insistence and retreat into internet based humour as substitutes for actual jokes. It was like this before, but chapter 5 is the genuine nadir, and showcases the worst of toby’s humour. (As if the mikes and Jackenstein weren’t enough) With vomit-inducing lines like floraddins “gamer boyfriend” which would quite literally be lambasted in any other game, to Yellow’s high-laireeuss suicidal escapades, that go on for so long and escalate so far that it’s the most mind numbing thing i’ve ever had to play in the game. (LISA jokes with this topic in a much better way. You meet a guy and get into battle with him, only for him to shoot himself in the head and die instantly.) You can say that internet humour was always part of Toby, and that’s right. But the “Anime IS real” thing in undertale was as eye rollingly pandering as it would be today.

this is a nitpick because it happens for like 2 minutes and then yes you ARE back at the actual game. You can't say "can we get back to the actual game" if it happens and goes... and not dragged out like a family guy sketch
