Through Big Hurry (1936), by Black Toney, came Searching (1952), the dam of champion Affectionately (1960). Another branch of Big Hurry’s family eventually produced Easy Goer (1986), winner of the 1989 Belmont Stakes and multiple Grade 1 races. THE WAR ADMIRAL CONNECTION One of the most fascinating connections in La Troienne’s family involved War Admiral (1934), the 1937 Triple Crown winner and son of Man o’ War. War Admiral was bred to several of La Troienne’s daughters, producing multiple successful runners and influential broodmares. With Baby League, he sired Busher (1942), the 1945 Horse of the Year, and Striking (1947), the 1961 Kentucky Broodmare of the Year. With Big Hurry, he sired Searching (1952), a Hall of Fame racemare who became the dam of champion Affectionately (1960). With Businesslike, he sired Busanda (1947), whose son Buckpasser (1963) became the 1966 Horse of the Year. Through these matings, the bloodlines of La Troienne and War Admiral came together repeatedly, creating several important branches of American Thoroughbred breeding.
