@cruxstationalis: “People should come here in procession.” In 1858, Our Lady gave this request to St. Bernadette at Lourdes. 168 years later, Pope Leo XIV joined thousands of pilgrims in answering it, becoming, as he said, “a pilgrim among pilgrims” during the Rosary aux Flambeaux. With candles illuminating the night, the Pope reflected on the light of hope that guides Christians through suffering, addressing especially the sick and reminding them that the trials of this life cannot compare with the glory to come. He then turned to the words Mary spoke at Lourdes: “I am the Immaculate Conception.” In her, Leo said, “everything begins anew, everything becomes possible once more.” Mary, he continued, is Stella Maris — the Star of the Sea — who comes to our aid in times of tribulation. “Following her, you will never go astray.” And as thousands carried their lights through Lourdes, Pope Leo prayed that this light “may never be extinguished in our lives,” and that “joy and invincible hope” might rise within our hearts. #popeleoxiv #lourdes #rosary
