Lived in apartments my entire life until I bought last year. Not in an HOA, I don't give a damn what I have to fix. The freedom I have in this home makes me want to cry. I look at this as shelter, not necessarily an investment even though it is. My mortgage is $1600 a month. I could rent it put for more. I wouldn't care if I was in this bitch with no water. No roaches from neighbors, no noise, no rules. Don't listen to this shit ESPECIALLY as Black people. Buy the damn house.

Rent from a private owner. Do not rent from a large apartment complexes. A private owner is a lot easier to deal with. They are usually just happy that you paid your rent on time.

I love renting. Landscaping gets done every 2 weeks, grounds are always clean. Maintenance come to fix anything within 24hours. If it can’t be fixed, it’s replaced immediately FOR FREE. Heat,hot water, trash and covered parking is included in my rent. And my rent payments get reported as credit. I used to want a house but I’m in California and most of my homeowner friends have either left the state or downsized to an apt to get it off their mortgage and taxes. This message made me even more comfortable with my choice.

Especially as a single mom! I will not be buying a house until it gets better. I’d rather call someone for help than to be house broke trying to fix everything and getting ripped off by people in that industry

I’m a realtor and I have been preaching this message but people don’t want to hear the truth until it’s too late. I’m renting a house next to a house that’s been on the market for more than 100 days! Same home but no one can afford to buy it.. meanwhile the owner has to keep the utilities on just to show it for a open house

At 8 or 9% be VERY sure you need a house or have a huge rainy day fund to sustain a loss of a job. minimum one year rainy day fund
