The turtle had wandered too far from a shrinking watering hole, and by midday, the dangerous heat meant no water was nearby, and no one was around to notice its struggle. Then, an elephant approached. It stopped beside the turtle and inspected it closely with its trunk. Instead of walking away, it sucked up the small amount of water left in a nearby muddy puddle and sprayed it directly over the turtle, repeating this action more than once to keep the turtle alive. Soon after, a villager passing by saw the struggling turtle and carried it to deeper water, not knowing then that the rescue had started much earlier.
