In the early 2000s, we all got a free newspaper, called the Red Eye, that we all read and it had all the upcoming events. I think there was an advice column. For awhile the other paper ran a competitor but it paled in comparison. Everyone read it and we’d discuss it later. I miss those times.

If you did a regular commute, people became familiar and would talk on the platform and in the train. Friendships grew. If reading newspapers, people would leave them for others to read.
