being Latino is about lived experience, not just ancestry. We’re not an ethnicity, and having Latino parents doesn’t automatically make you Latino. If you’ve never lived in Latin America, then you have Latino ancestry, but you haven’t experienced what it means to actually live here and be part of the culture.

I think its because spanish is like the foundation for most latinos, we grew up with this language, and it's part of the culture of most Latin American countries so is weird seeing someone saying "Im latino" and they not speak any Latin America language and because, personally, sometimes it feels like many kids aren't really interested in learning about the culture or history of their countries and are only interested in saying "I'm Latino" because is exotic for the gringos

Ser latino está relacionado con dónde naciste geográficamente. Si no naciste aquí, no eres lationamericano, solo tienes ascendencia por tus padres o familia. Es cansado ver personas de USA afirmando que son latinoamericanos cuando no se molestan en aprender nuestros idiomas o culturas.

My bad. My mom purposely didn’t teach me so I wouldn’t get punished 💀 she use to get spanked at school for speaking Spanish and looked down on back then.. little does she know I would have been making more money now being bilingual!!!

Some lady gave me the explanation of "oh your parents were trying to save you" when I said my parents never taught me and my response was "depriving me of an integral part of my culture isn't saving me" couldn't even have a full conversation with my grandfather before he died and now I never can.
