I'm an atheist. no, you don't understand what he said. He's claiming the meaning behind the suffering is not accounted for . 'what's it all for?' the theist says (I.e. specifically Christians) that there is some eternal reward for those that are afflicted. of course, you have to believe but the claim is that there is something at the end for those people. some hopium. but what is there to offer those people with a naturalistic and materialistic worldview? nothing. it's over. the party is over. turn the lights out. he's right, unfortunately.

his question isnt genuine its a philosophical cul-de-sac no one is saying "christianity is terrible because suffering exists". we have said if the Christian god is all powerful and all knowing then why does suffering exist? which is definitely not the same thing

God has the power to do so, but if He were to take away evil from the world, He would have to eliminate it entirely because he is a Just God so if he take away sickness he would have to take away killing,grape,famine etc. This would ultimately strip away the free will He give us, since evil exists because human beings freely choose to commit wrongful actions.
