the universe self corrects itself by selecting two chosen people to save it. Donnie is the first and the crazy lady is the second. she is the one who survives and he dies after setting things right. the whole story takes place in a reality that's collapsing as two universes are merging. He is urged out by the rabbit when a jet engine falls on his house from seemingly nowhere. the reason he dies is because in the corrected reality the jet engine lands on his room killing him and thus closing the paradox out. that's why he was selected because in a stable reality the engine would have killed him anyways so giving him the power to fix things and save two realities makes sense because once his job is done the timeline will set itself back on track.

I hate you all no one is explaining franks importance when he’s ligit our second main character AND we have that weird ass scene of him at the end when we jump reality’s almost insinuating (IN MY OPINION) that maybe jack was following along with Donnie trying to maybe save himself🤷‍♀️idk that’s my interpretation of it I hope other people have some ideas on frank and his importance.
