Yeh this is so hard to explain to people, that like especially when I’m in autistic shut down. It’s not that I don’t even want to talk, which may be the case, but it is physically impossible for me to do so. It’s almost like I’ve forgotten how to actually speak. I may open my mouth to attempt to say something, and nothing comes out and I close it again. I never knew what this was about until my diagnosis.

for me it feels like im choking on the words but in my mind. its not a physical choking but it has physical consequences.

So I looked into this but for acousticism and found that severe overstimulation and overwhelm and lead to an involuntary ability to speak at certain times. I’ve dealt with this in certain crises and it felt like sleep paralysis in a way.

As an autistic person who is also a rhetoric scholar, I hate how much I analyze everyone's words and try to find their hidden intentions as well as how much I analyze my own words.

words are important and i don’t like that words are meaningless a lot of the time now because ppl use words without meaning them aND using words without caring to know the meaning and so two ppl can have one conversation and come away happy but not realizing they didn’t communicate ?

i try to explain selectively going mute when stressed/anxious as feeling similar to walking through a mine field. i am so scared to make the wrong move that i stop altogether and shut down

when I have to have really hard conversations I like to have them back to back so I don't have to control my face and look at a face too. I'm always asking for people to narrow it down for me when asking those questions. or tell them that it's too open ended of a question.
