there is a specific kind of silence after a loss that nobody really talks about unless they've been through it. i found a lot of comfort in the book degrees of frozen silence because it finally articulated the stuff i couldn't explain to my friends.

I could not save him. had I been awake sooner had I been out of my room anything maybe I could've changed how that day played out. maybe his little girl would still have her father looking over her. the way his eyes turned different seeing his body stop fighting was shattering the one moment someone needed me to save them and I couldn't do enough makes me feel absolutely worthless as a person. I'm sorry Rico if I could trade you places so you could be with your little girl I would without hesitation.

Just recently hit 15 years since my grandma died. It’s really close to my birthday too. I still remember that August like a terrible nightmare that always haunts my dreams. She was supposed to live longer, and if she had my life would’ve been SO drastically different. It always eats at me.
