Astronomia Dragon — Green Dragon & Tiger A hand-finished and hand-painted tiger and green dragon wage war against each other inside the sapphire case, wrapped around the movement. The dragon has ruby eyes. The overall amount of detail packed into such a small space is rather ridiculous — in the best possible way. We’re looking at Jacob & Co.’s Astronomia architecture here, with the entire movement arranged vertically around three arms. At the centre, a 2.18 ct yellow diamond sits on top of the movement, while an off-centre one-minute flying tourbillon and titanium dial display the hours and minutes. On the third arm, there’s a blue-lacquered magnesium globe, which makes full rotation once every 60 seconds as part of the entire display. So you’ve got the dragon and tiger, the rotating Earth, the flying tourbillon and the diamond, all moving inside the same space. It’s a tiny mechanical theatre. The hand-wound JCAM42 has 295 components, runs at 4Hz and provides around 48 hours of power reserve. The case measures 44mm in diameter and 21mm thick, with sapphire side panels and a curved sapphire crystal. Water resistance is rated at 30 metres. The time display itself is incredibly simple. Hours and minutes. That’s it. @Jacob & Co.
