@econwithsarah: 9/27/2026: Do work requirements…. Actually bring more people to work? Part 1: @Econ with Sarah, PhD #economics #medicaid #healthinsurance
Congress doesn’t always work 80 hours per month. Should they lose their salary when they don’t meet that requirement?

Administrative eugenics is still eugenics. This will cost lives. This will cause unnecessary, easily avoidable suffering. Hard not to see it as class warfare.

all those people kicked off Medicaid end up in the ER, which is the most expensive treatment. Those costs get passed on to taxpayers.

I wish they could understand what it is they are cutting. Medicaid pays zero dollars to anyone that has it, it reimburses or pays medical claims and prescriptions there is no rent, food or clothing available via Medicaid. Therefore you literally cannot “sit around and live off Medicaid” it’s so frustrating. More paperwork more ways to cut benefits rather than just investing in Medicare for all.

Why is he assuming that people receiving medicaid are able to work when companies favor youth?

What job are people working that you can work 20 hours a week AND stay below the minimum amount you're allowed to make per month? Not good ones is the answers. And I don't want to hear anything about "volunteering" 😒.

If you increase the administrative cost while reducing the number of recipients it then becomes easier to paint the program as either failing or unsustainable.

Im going to most likely lose my Medicaid. It is literally the only reason I'm alive. I am terminally ill, I need artificial nutrition and so many meds keeping me going. I can not afford it. I will never be able to afford it. I can't get on disability due to lack of transportation. I will die if I lose my Medicaid

And now there’s a lawsuit filed that’s trying to get rid of exemptions. I’ve worked at the same place for 11 years. A very hard worker. I am deemed medically frail by the state that I live in. Yet I still work. I just have certain limitations. And now they want me to be without healthcare as well. The cruelty is the point imo

The point is cruelty, not logic or learning from past experience.

onerous work requirements are designed to kick people off healthcare. Just implement universal healthcare

I know this isn't your area of expertise but this does sound a lot like how universal school lunches would work. there's so much costs related to checking income requirements and making school lunch systems that it could all just be used to feed kids instead

I’ve been working in biomedical research for the past 7+ years but with funding shenanigans with this administration pushed me to pivot and I’m in a nuclear medicine program and I am ✨so nervous✨ pivoting into healthcare with all this going on too.

Administrative cost should be reduced by using IT. Why do they employ people for that?

I work in incentive design. You know what I would never do? Look at a program that did not yield the desired results and say, “let’s try it again!”

I know this is not your expertise, but are there econonic studies done on the impact of student loans? Paying these student loan companies to handle the program vs. making college free?

I’m SAT for all your videos! I work for one of the large public health plans and we are dreading 2027-2028! This is all going to cost so much more in ER care - the cruelty is the point
