I think a lot of people struggle with silences and if they don’t have another topic in que when the current one ends “how are you?” Comes out as a panicked default (anything to fill the void!) And yes, they are mega nervous!

They want clarification, possibly nervous at the first ask and came back around for conversation material I'm not good with names so if you told me earlier it might not have registered so I might wait till someone calls you by name or have to ask again even having a full conversation. Having our conversation with you to me would take more importance over me knowing your name. Maybe they were still coming to grip with getting there or a mishap getting ready.. Once I start listening I don't miss anything you say but the first few minutes I could be distracted, maybe they're like me.

Maybe a little bit of both. Sometimes lack of conversation can come from being nervous. I'm not surprised if they were nervous. You are a wonderful human being.

I think they were nervous in the beginning and probably didn’t hear ur answer. Then they are more relaxed and actually can hear ur answer now so ask again (and probably don’t recall already asking)
