I just finished retiring and planned to properly go this year for a week or so, still might but next year me and the wife spending a week down there fishing all day and night 🤣🤣. Years back I was in charge of port ops in corpus and got laid to stay down there for a couple months. Best fishing experience of my life!!! Went with a couple light freshwater combos and a small box . Left with 4 surf / pier spin set ups, 2 for lure work , and 3 different bait casters from smallish to large enough to catch sharks on. Been a saltwater addict since . I even baught a 2nd boat for Inshore saltwater fishing in the bay and around the packers etc. be for that the biggest fish I caught was like a 50LB catfish , got spooked out my first day and baught a surf pier combo and a bait casters. Within two weeks I got spooled on my surf pier combo and upgraded to a proper penn spinning. Reel and a rod everyone at the piers recommended, never got spooled again on that bad boy. I love freshwater fishing. It nothing in you’re average lake comes close to fighting a 40 inch red fish, even 20-30 inch speck trout fight like demons!!
