@codependencykate: Ok so I’ve heard to you guys here online for years now. I’ve worked with you. I’ve seen you. And my clinical training and experience has finally collided with it all in one powerful model. “Avoidance abuse.” This is what happens when what DOESN’T HAPPEN, happens to you. Repeatedly over time, eroding you little by little. And hopefully now, naming this will bring its darkness to light. Because it finally has a name- avoidance abuse. Go to www.codependencykate.com to get the full guide on what to do next, and then give me your thoughts. We named this together, let’s tame this together. #avoidanceabuse
100% accurate! I experienced everything on this list PLUS one you missed… Demotion - the prioritization of friends, neighbors and other less significant relationships.

It always felt like control to me. But it’s generally not protested that way in all the clinical research. But I certainly felt I had NO influence over the relationship.

Is there an inverse of this as well? idk if "anxious abuse" would be the right term, but i am very curious if that is also a consideration. I do think this is helpful, but I am also aware of how difficult it is for a lot of anxiously attached folks to differentiate between secure boundaries, avoidance, and abuse.

It’s hurts so bad that looking back it was all abuse. And I just stick around and even thought it was love and normal. And still I miss him 😫

just roughly ended a relationship because of this. I say roughly because this is hard to identify in motion over time.

I have been waiting a couple years for someone to put together “abuse “ and “avoidant.” But avoidant attachment underlies neurology (adhd or autism) and personality/ disorder. These behaviors might be also based in these too
