I have a funny Japan vending machine story. I'm originally from the US, but have lived in Japan since 1997. When I first came to Japan, I was already fluent in the language, but had never lived in Japan. My first two years I lived in the great white north of 岩手県 Iwate in a town that had about a 50% chance of appearing on a map called 葛巻. It's really just an intersection. First time using a Japanese vending machine, when I touched the can, it was hot! So I tossed it over my shoulder, then told my friend at the local drug store that there is something wrong with the vending machine. He told me it's normal that we have both cold and HOT beverages in Japanese vending machines. 🤯 Another story, I'm a cycling geek, so often in the winter I would be out cycling, very cold, would stop at a vending machine, buy two hot drinks, and put one under my jersey over my heart while I drank the other. 🚴‍♂️I love the corn soup in a can; it's perfect for cycling.
