I watched the new show with my roommate, who had never heard of the Stand, and I had to keep explaining everything because of the jumbled timeline. Then I made him watch the 90’s series and he was like ‘ooooo I get it now.

Casting a black man to play a white guy who sounds black when he sings, who's Mom is casually racist, was also a strange choice for me. In the book, his Mom tells him he sounds like a (hard R n-word) when he sings.
