Mary Jane Veloso resmi bebas pada Jumat (25/9/2026) setelah menjalani lebih dari 16 tahun masa hukuman. Presiden Filipina Ferdinand Marcos Jr. memberikan absolute pardon atau pengampunan mutlak kepada Mary Jane, yang sebelumnya dijatuhi hukuman mati di Indonesia. Mary Jane ditangkap di Bandara Adisutjipto, Yogyakarta, pada April 2010 setelah sekitar 2,6 kilogram heroin ditemukan di dalam kopernya. Eksekusinya pada 2015 ditunda setelah Pemerintah Filipina meminta agar ia dapat menjadi saksi dalam proses hukum terhadap pihak yang diduga merekrutnya. Indonesia dan Filipina menyepakati pemindahan Mary Jane pada Desember 2024. Sejak dipulangkan ke Filipina, status hukumnya menjadi kewenangan Pemerintah Filipina. Menko Hukum, HAM, Imigrasi dan Pemasyarakatan Yusril Ihza Mahendra menegaskan Indonesia menghormati pengampunan mutlak dari Presiden Marcos.
