In the early weeks there's no strict schedule that works, because newborns feed on demand. Their body clock simply hasn't developed yet. What does help is a simple, repeatable order (we call it routine but what we mean is an order of steps). This way, feeds feel less chaotic even when the timing is all over the place. A few important things to know: 1. This is a loose rhythm. 2. It’s not meant to be a timetable. 3. Feed whenever your baby is hungry, aiming for roughly 8 to 12 feeds in 24 hours. 4. The awake-time step is for daytime only. At night, keep it calm and boring: feed, then straight back to sleep, no play and no bright lights, so your baby starts to learn day from night. 5. Always supervise tummy and awake time, and always put baby down to sleep on their back in their own clear, flat space.
