I arrived well before my scheduled time, but it wasn't until around 2:00 PM—after waiting since 5:17 AM—that it finally reached my turn for documentation, the very first stage of the process. Ironically, earlier in the day, I overheard an officer say, and I quote, "There's nothing like protocol here." Yet right at Table 2 under the canopies behind the guardroom (where potential Navy Cadets were instructed to gather at the Air Force Base in Accra), a young lady jumped the queue ahead of me. Since she clearly hadn't arrived early, I asked why she was bypassing everyone else who had been waiting patiently. Her response was almost comical: "He said I should wait... he'll tell you to wait. I'm moving to him...my name is on his list." But we all knew there was nothing of that sort except the queue we had formed I stood there for a moment, processing what she said, but eventually let her go ahead. After all, who am I to challenge it? She was never in the queue to begin with. It made me wonder: why aren't we all given a level playing field? Yet at the end of the day, those who benefit from favoritism will turn around and label the underprivileged as lazy. Those responsible will be held accountable someday. Mad world... smh.
