we lived in new orleans. Copeland was an incredible guy. he was well known for his christmas displays. he would dress up as Santa and hand out candy canes in the 80s

Popeyes’ locations in New Orleans before Katrina was something else. A Metairie location had a buffet. A location in the 7th ward sold grits and eggs for breakfast. To this day you can’t convince me that it doesn’t taste better there. Al Copeland always decorated his house for the holidays with the biggest lights display, I know his neighbors hated him because of the traffic.

To be accurate: The first store wasn’t in New Orleans (Orleans Parish) in 1972, it was located in Arabi, Louisiana (St. Bernard Parish).

My dad worked for Al Copeland at the company mentioned, Diversified Foods and Seasoning, my Dad worked there from 84 until his death in 98, he was a product manager and was part of the team that come up with the current red beans and biscuit recipe. I remember taste testing samples as a kid. Thank you for flooding my mind with so many great memories 🫶🏻
