Brother Michael :
The word hell comes from the Greek word, Gehenna. Gehenna comes from the Hebrew word, Ge Be Hinnom, which is the valley of Hinnom. The valley of Hinnom is a place in Jerusalem, where people burn their firstborn children to the Canaanite, God of Molac.
Every time Yashua said the word hell, he was pointing at a real place on a map, not a metaphor not an abstraction, a valley, just outside Jerusalem's southern wall, sits, a place called Gehenna. You can visit it today. For the people in that crowd 2000 years ago, that name did not sound like theology. It sounded like a warning they already knew because within living memory that valley had been the sight of child sacrifice, worshippers of a God named Molac brought their children there and burned them alive. The Hebrew Bible condemns it by name multiple times by the time Yashua walked those streets, it had become a garbage dump fires burned there constantly. Dark, the smell never left. So when Yashua reached for a word to describe the destination of the condemned, he did not invent one. He chose a specific place.
