Literally anything but dragons, giant spiders and undead, those are just lazy writing. I wish people would invent new horrible beings with some distusbing lore and put them in some most unexpected situations so there is serious shock value

personally kitsunes. more so more protector kinds, Keeping things off of sacred land or keeping something safe. theyre not normally meaning harm but will if needed, and have forms based off of elements. like one could be fire themed and another nature themed

Leszy doesn’t really mimic voices but sounds of the forest to lead you astray IF you didn’t respect the forest. If you’re respectful, Leszy won’t hurt you and he might actually help you find your way out

Honestly , any mythical creature from Celtic, Japanese, Norse and other mythologies is perfect for books. (Anyone who mentions dullahan has good taste , love them !) Also , I don't read a lot of dragons in my fantasy. Am I just reading the wrong books?

yeah, you can find lots of interesting creatures by simply making a few searches online. Slavic mythology, germanic, japanese, chinese and whatever. Most of them have similar things like undead, dragons or spirits, but always with some details making them different from eachother
