One of the things I cannot stop thinking about while reading the allegations surrounding the Cornell Seven is how much we expect from victims after sexual assault and abuse. Save the messages. Take screenshots. Document everything. Remember exactly what happened and when. Preserve physical evidence. Tell the right person. Say the right words. Do it quickly. And somehow know, while your nervous system is trying to survive what just happened, what evidence you may need months or YEARS later. And then, if that evidence doesn’t exist, people ask why. Victims should not have to become detectives in the middle of their own trauma in order to be believed or have a chance at accountability. This Snapchat group chat is especially disturbing in the context of the allegations in the lawsuit because it shows why digital evidence can matter so much — but a victim should never be blamed when evidence like this doesn’t happen to survive. The burden of investigating sexual violence should not quietly become the victim’s burden. I was drugged by a Fraternity at Eastern Illinois University and I remember hearing them all talking but I couldn't move my body. A guy carried me to a car and drove me to another house. I remember all of this clear as day, but I couldn't move or speak... I could hear them saying how they drugged me...and ONE guy said he was worried and wanted to take me to a hospital but the rest refused and said they were going to get in trouble if they do. oh, and they also stole my purse with my ID as well and I had to go back with a cop for them to give it to me. It was humiliating.

So glad I dropped from my frat in sophomore year icl. Thankfully they didn’t do anything wrong cuz the board was hella strict on drugs (we had a drug testing policy) and had a rule that girls always drank from sealed drinks.
