At its heart lies a remarkable natural phenomenon—a stream that flows from the rocks, but only under very special circumstances. On ordinary days, you wouldn’t see any water emerging from the rocks. However, during the Eba/Ohum festival, the community, led by the Ayeh Sofo, enters the forest to pour libations. This ritual invocation causes the water to miraculously spring forth from the rocks. This event draws people from all over the world who come with gallons to collect the water, which is believed to possess powerful healing properties. It is said that the water can work miracles—helping those struggling with infertility to conceive, and bringing prosperity and healing to those facing financial or business difficulties. Many bathe in the water, cook with it, or take it home, believing it will bring blessings and success. Additionally, during the Eba/Ohum festival, visitors to the forest engage in snail hunting. It is believed that if a person catches a snail, cooks it, and eats it, they stand a chance of conceiving a child.The tradition holds that catching one snail means you will give birth to a baby, while catching two or more increases the likelihood of having twins or triplets. People have given so many testimonies to that effect. This practice is an important part of the festival’s rituals and adds to the spiritual significance of the forest. The forest and its sacred water are visited once every year, or sometimes once every two years, making the occasion all the more special and significant for the community and visitors alike.
