@daveramsey: Jonathan has $1,400,000 sitting in a checking account. He called in to The Ramsey Show for advice. Never put your money in something you don’t understand. Investing in something you don’t understand is a great way to lose money. And while cash in a checking account feels safe, it doesn’t grow, and inflation takes a bite out of it every year.
1.4m saved over 9 years and he makes 200k before tax ? The math ain’t mathing

Sad really because his cash has lost 30% to 40% of its spending power and the S&P 500 index funds are up 140% since 2020

Straight up just a high yield savings & you’re earning $3,000-4,000 a month in interest. A Chase savings or checking and you’re earning $140 a month.

Pay off the house! Otherwise you’re just paying interest for no reason.

Having $1.4 million and not knowing whether or not to pay off your mortgage or not is a problem, I would love to have. Some people just get on that show to flaunt

To make your first 2 million all you need is a tax free savings and credit, build your credit, investments and emergency fund, don’t keep liquid cash floating in a chequing account it’s wasted capital. Until you make your first 2 million you shouldn’t have any liquid cash and you shouldn’t be buying non essentials

Keep a comfortable amount in an emergency fund, then invest in a diversified portfolio. Do this until you are comfortable.
