Inspectors discovered the dog's emaciated body beneath a plastic chair at a property on Southfield Lane on 26 November. The cellar floor was covered in faeces with no visible food, water, or bedding, while desperate scratch marks scarred the cellar door where Biscuit had attempted to escape. A veterinary examination revealed Biscuit weighed just 7kg—less than half the 15kg expected for a healthy dog of her size. The vet assigned her a body condition score of just 0.5 out of 5, noting an untreated parasitic infection and zero muscle mass. The court heard her suffering lasted for at least 10 days, and likely considerably longer. Wright admitted causing unnecessary suffering to an animal, confessing Biscuit had not seen a vet for years. Magistrates handed him a six-month prison sentence suspended for 12 months, 150 hours of unpaid work, £554 in costs and surcharges, and a lifetime ban on keeping animals.
