@hr_explained: Look at any company org chart and tell me who is in charge. When it appears HR is who is making the decision, they are doing what leadership agrees with. Otherwise, they’ve be overridden because HR doesn’t run companies. Leaders do. If HR wants to fire someone and leadership disagrees, they don’t get fired. And you probably have no idea how many times HR has recommended someone get fired but because leadership wants to keep them, they don’t get fired. And vice versa. Sometimes HR’s recommendation is that someone not be fired. But, they get fired because leadership wants that. It’s also not HR who “protects the company.” That’s Legal’s job. And managers are the front line of defense against litigation. If managers were perfect, there would be a lot less lawsuits. It’s not HR causing the majority of litigation. It’s managers and leadership. #humanresources #hrtiktok #leadershipskills #leadership #manager

As an HR business partner, this is one of the things that makes me the most frustrated about employees and even their managers. I make recommendations on how we should move forward per policy and compliance. We do not in any shape or form make the decision.

Managers are the problem, they know they have the ultimate decision. In my opinion, HR is useless for employees. Yes, you can complain, show evidence of favoritism. It dose no good if upper management (dm/ceo) don't fallow policies. That's why people just quite or stop preforming as well. No point and we know it.

HR protects the business from lawsuits, conducts investigations, evaluates risk, and runs the decision up the flagpoles. They aren’t there to keep the workplace fair and healthy. I’ve also seen CEO and decision makers tolerate unethical behavior and support toxicity simply because they like the leaders results and tolerate the poor culture they build.

I have had leaders not agree but ultimately policy is policy so if I’m terming someone there is evidence to back it up and no leader could argue

They want us to keep them anonymous, but if we do anything about most situations, then they will not be anonymous.

so if a supervisor decides to fire an employee after they make a complaint, isn't that grounds to sue for retaliation?

I always have to remind complainers that we do not flog employees in public. We will investigate and handle situations but that any disciplinary action is private.

HR Consultant here & I got so tired of business owners not taking my advice (that they pay for) I have a rule if they haven’t been sued they can’t be my client. Once they realize they are not above the law things run more smoothly.

I own my own International HR Consulting firm and I agree with this. HR does a lot behind the scenes that no one knows about or understands, however as much as we may agree with employees on a situation, we can get over ridden by the CEO and a Board. Hierarchy exists in every company and we have to be respectful of that however, in the right company, we can have a lot of say but have to be well trained in the powers of persuasion and making strong business cases for dealership to be swayed. I have overturned many crappy decisions at companies, but there have been times that I’ve been overridden by crappy leaders and Boards with a deeper agenda.
