It could have been the first train of the morning, or perhaps the last one of the night; she had stopped worrying about the timetable. Beside her sat an old suitcase, carrying whatever she had decided was worth taking with her, and beyond the station lay a journey whose destination she hadn’t quite allowed herself to imagine. Then she noticed the moon. Enormous and impossibly bright above the distant hills, it seemed almost close enough to touch. For a few moments, the journey, the waiting and everything she had been thinking about became unimportant. She simply sat and looked. Perhaps it was nothing more than an extraordinary moonlit night. Or perhaps, just for that moment, she chose to believe it was a sign, not telling her where to go, but quietly reminding her that there was somewhere to go.
