@officialfuturespaceworld: Scientists just discovered an exceptionally well-preserved feather inside a 66-million-year-old fossilized dinosaur dropping which may explain why birds survived the asteroid In Montana, paleontologist David DeMar Jr. found a chunk of fossilized dinosaur dung, possibly from a young T. rex, with a tiny feather inside. It's 66 million years old. The feather came from a hesperornithiform, a diving bird like a loon, eaten just after its last fish meal. CT scans revealed more feathers, gar scales, and leg bones. The study, published on September 10 in Current Biology, suggests feather type, or how birds molted, may explain why some birds died, and others survived the impact winter. One outside expert calls that a stretch. #Paleontology #Dinosaurs #Extinction #Birds #fossils
