⚠️ Scanned on Exposr⚠️ Consumer Reports just tested Hostess Donettes. A single serving contained nearly 19 times the amount of a carcinogenic contaminant deemed safe for daily consumption. The contaminant: titanium dioxide — a synthetic whitening agent banned from all food across the EU since 2022 after the European Food Safety Authority concluded it can break DNA strands and cause chromosomal damage. Hostess Donettes contained 261 milligrams per serving — over 760 times the amount found in the other three products with titanium dioxide combined. Not slightly more. 760 times more. Titanium dioxide is also used in paint, sunscreen, and plastic. Its only purpose in the donut is cosmetic — to make the powdered coating look brighter and whiter. Zero flavour function. Zero nutritional value. Just a DNA-damaging pigment to improve appearance. Dunkin' removed titanium dioxide from its powdered donuts in 2015 — proving the additive was never necessary. Hostess kept it. The rest of the ingredient list: palm oil, soybean oil, dextrose, sugar, corn starch, sodium aluminum phosphate, mono and diglycerides — a hidden trans fat source — four different preservatives including natamycin, an antifungal eye medication, and undisclosed "natural and artificial flavors." The packaging says "America's #1 Donut." Consumer Reports found it contains 19 times the safe level of a compound banned across 27 European countries for damaging human DNA. Dunkin' proved it can make a powdered donut without it. Hostess chose to keep 261 milligrams of it in every serving. Scanned on the Exposr app - @exposrapp
