@ellysplate: When less than 3% of the uk is vegan & you're suddenly the one asking to be catered for, people pleasing has got to leave the chat!! 😀 here's how i got through the early years without losing my boundaries & my mind… 1. STOP SAYING SORRY!!! if someone's cooked something especially for you, it's "thank you, i really appreciate it", not "sorry i'm such a burden" reframe it into a positive action and they’ll start to see it that way too 2. keep initial comms light without over explaining yourself = "btw i've gone vegan, let me know if you want me to bring anything." Bringing a lovely vegan dish is a great way to open up the conversation when you arrive in a positive way! 3. having a healthy debate doesn’t mean having an argument. i fell into the "chill vegan" trap for ages, now i approach topics with openness and curiosity, not judgement. Which ones have i missed?!?
I actually had to learn the opposite, I was sooooo incredibly confrontational in the first few years after going vegan.
So I love that you said that we should try to meet people where they are and not where we want them to be. Great tip for both preachy vegans and people pleasing vegans 🥹
