A hedge fund’s role is not to outperform, it’s to hedge lol it’s in the name. Most retails are long on the same thing and risk is concentrated. If you have retail money then concentration of risk is acceptable because the reward is great enough, but when youre rich your goal is to preserve that wealth and so you wanna hedge, i.e. take positions that are decoupled from popular index funds so that if they collapse you dont lose your generational wealth all at once.
