How many construction workers risk their lives simply because basic safety standards aren't followed? Construction workers are among the people most exposed to hazards on building sites, especially when working at height, around scaffolding, electrical systems, machinery, and falling objects. A worker should be able to go to work knowing that proper safety measures are in place—and that they will return home safely to their family. This means providing and enforcing basic protections such as: ✔ Proper fall protection and safety equipment ✔ Safe scaffolding and access systems ✔ Personal protective equipment (PPE) ✔ Safety training and supervision ✔ Emergency and first-aid procedures ✔ Safe working conditions ✔ Proper reporting and prevention of accidents Pakistan approved a national Occupational Safety and Health Code of Practice for the construction sector in April 2026, establishing legally binding minimum safety requirements for construction sites. The Code covers construction workers across the sector, including workers in the informal economy. International construction safety guidance also emphasizes fall prevention and fall-protection systems when workers face risks from working at height. But regulations only matter when they are actually implemented on the ground. Every building we construct represents someone's work, effort, and livelihood. No project should be so urgent or so profitable that a worker's life becomes an acceptable risk. Safety should never be optional.
