The exchange came after Clairo responded to an X post that read, “I kinda respect how Clairo stopped pretending to like girls”. Clairo responded directly in a 27 September post to her X account, writing, “Why do I have to prove to everyone who I sleep with? Do you guys want a list or something? Be so for real.” Clairo publicly came out as bisexual in 2018, but has since described her sexuality in more fluid terms. In a 2025 interview with Seventeen, she said she doesn’t care for labels and described being queer as a major part of who she is, adding: “If I date a girl, I date a girl.
