Paolo Duterte pushed back against broadcaster Korina Sanchez-Roxas’ description of Davao as “Napag-iwanan” arguing that the city’s progress should be measured by public services rather than its number of high-rise buildings, malls or upscale establishments. “Madam Korina Sanchez-Roxas, eto sa akin din lang opinyon to ha. Kung ang tingin mo sa progreso ay puro sosyalan, high-rise buildings, malls at party-party, dyan ka na lang sa sosyalan ninyo,” Duterte said. He cited Davao’s 911 emergency system, peace and order, health services, disaster response, roads and other basic government services as areas he said should be considered when assessing the city’s development. “NAPAG-IWANAN? Hangover ka pa ata sa last champagne party niyo ah,” Duterte added, while citing Davao City’s economy, which he said had reached ₱601.68 billion.
